The Religious Worker Visa (Temporary Work) enables individuals to come to the UK and work for a religious organisation in roles such as a minister of religion, missionary, or faith-based worker. If you’re looking to serve within your faith community, this visa provides a clear route to do so.

To apply, you must have a confirmed job offer from an approved religious organisation, and the role must be in line with your religious duties. Importantly, this visa allows you to stay for up to 24 months, depending on your role and circumstances.

Religious Worker Visa (Temporary Work) - Your Path to the UK

The Temporary Work – Religious Worker route is for a person who wants to come to the UK to support the activities of religious institutions by conducting religious work such as working in a religious order or undertaking non-pastoral work for a religious organisation.

A Minister of Religion must apply on the T2 Minister of Religion route if their engagement in the UK involves leading a congregation in performing rites, rituals and preaching the essentials of the creed as its core duties.

Requirements for a Temporary Work - Religious Worker visa:

  • You must be aged 18 or over on the date of application.
  • If you are applying for permission to stay you must have, or have last had, permission as a Religious Worker.
  • You must have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship for the job you are planning to do.
  • The sponsor must be authorised by the Home Office to sponsor the job in question under the Religious Worker route.
  • The sponsor must be listed as A-rated on the Home Office’s register of licensed sponsors.
  • You must meet the financial requirement.

Visa Duration:

You’ll be given a visa to live and work in the UK for up to 24 months, or up to 28 days more than the time on your certificate of sponsorship.  You can apply to extend your Temporary Work – Religious Worker visa.

Settlement:

The Religious Worker (Temporary Work) route is not a route to settlement.

Partner and Children:

A partner and children can apply as dependants on this route if they are eligible.
